One Habit at a Time

Hello one and all!

How do you develop your habits?

Something I’m terrible at is consistency.  I often feel as though all of my habits are negative ones, while it takes all too much effort to do everyday things that should happen automatically.

One mistake I’ve kept making is to think I have to be bad or be good at something.  So with housekeeping, my personal nemesis, I would try to negate my prior lax behavior by doing everything everyday, all at once.  As you can imagine, it didn’t get me very far.

This time, I’m taking a different approach.  For the past week or so, I’ve swept my home everyday, sometimes more than once.  In some ways, I find it pathetic that this is something I’m proud of; however, I also know that this is a step in the right direction for me, and that there should be no shame in taking things slowly as long as I continue to make an effort and improve.

I plan to continue focusing on sweeping everyday for another week or two.  When I feel certain I can continue effortlessly, I will introduce another housekeeping habit.

It might be slow, but slow and steady can win the race.  Better to take my time and do it right than to continue my all-or-nothing approach and fail over and over again.

What habits do you need to work on, and how do you establish them as constants in your life?

As always, much love!
