Hello one and all!
This week I’ve been reading “One Good Deed: 365 Days of Trying to Be Just A Little Bit Better” by Erin McHugh, a book about – well, about trying to be just a little bit better. McHugh writes tales of family, friendship, coworkers, and strangers, as she attempts to look for ways to add some goodness to the world.
I’ve had my struggles with being a good person. I feel like I could be one, but right now I feel a bit too self-centered, self-righteous, and quick to complain.
My challenge to myself, and to you, is to look for ways to be good to other people.
The first good deed that comes to mind is to stand up; stand up on crowded trains and buses. Like everybody else, I’m often keeping an eye out for the next free seat. Sure, there are days when I really feel like I need it, but most of the time it’s not a physical necessity. So the last time I took the train, I stood up. It’s not as obvious as giving up your seat for somebody else, but just the same, somebody else will be able to sit because you didn’t.
As always, much love!
